The political landscape in the commercial hub of Laksam in southern Cumilla has grown vibrant even before the formal announcement of the election schedule for the upcoming municipal polls, with potential mayoral candidates, supporters, and local equations driving intense discussions across the town.

Speculation centers primarily on a prospective three-way mayoral contest involving municipal BNP President Alhaj Mujibur Ahmad, upazila BNP Organizing Secretary Mosharaf Hossain Miju, and district Jamaat-e-Islami executive council member and prominent lawyer Bodiul Alam Sujan. While some view these early preparations as preliminary, political analysts note they serve as a rigorous test of candidate popularity as well as the neutrality of the administration and ruling factions.

According to multiple sources among municipal residents, although local government election schedules were initially anticipated around September 15, an official declaration has yet to be finalized. 

Nevertheless, intense calculations are underway among party leaders, activists, supporters, and general voters. Discussions in tea stalls, alleyways, and social media across the municipality focus heavily on political alliances, individual popularity, potential compromises, and the likelihood of independent runs if official party nominations are withheld.

Among the prominent contenders, municipal BNP President Mujibur Ahmad is relying on his long-standing political and social standing to mobilize grassroots support, leveraging his personal network and dedicated followers. Meanwhile, upazila BNP Organizing Secretary Mosharaf Hossain Miju has been conducting intensive round-the-clock mass outreach, backed by his own network of workers and supporters, with locals suggesting that securing a party nomination would make the electoral arithmetic even more fiercely competitive.

On the other side, Jamaat leader Advocate Bodiul Alam Sujan enters the race as a singular candidate from his camp, drawing considerable attention given that his two main potential rivals belong to the BNP. Supporters emphasize his grassroots engagement, social welfare involvement, and community ties as core strengths.

Local political observers note that the municipal electoral scenario will clarify further once the Election Commission officially announces the schedule, at which point candidate alignments, organizational strength, and voter contact will become decisive. Additional prospective names, including prominent resident and elite family member Md. Rafsunjul Islam, are also rumored to be weighing mayoral bids.

With approximately 7 to 8 potential mayoral contenders, 8 to 9 female councillor aspirants, and around 50 candidates expected across the 9 male councillor wards, the electoral race promises significant engagement. 

While opposition and allied groups navigate their positioning, local stakeholders caution that the influence of black money, muscle power, and potential party factionalism could shape the final outcome as the municipality approaches the polls.
