Must prepare before earthquake strikes: Dulu

Minister for Disaster Management and Relief Asadul Habib Dulu, MP, has emphasized the urgent need for advance preparation against seismic risks, warning that earthquakes strike without warning and can devastate vast settlements in an instant.
Speaking as the chief guest at the inauguration of the "Prime Minister's Promised Earthquake Training Program" held at the Department of Disaster Management in the capital on Thursday morning, the Minister highlighted Bangladesh's high vulnerability to earthquakes. He stated that robust preparation is essential to ensuring rapid post-disaster rescue operations and providing immediate support to affected communities. In line with directives from the Prime Minister, the ministry is currently training and readying 100,000 volunteers across the country.
The Minister noted that as a disaster-prone nation facing recurring natural hazards, Bangladesh requires continuous proactive measures, which the government is implementing to mitigate public suffering and enhance emergency response capabilities.
Addressing the event as a special guest, State Minister for Disaster Management and Relief M. Iqbal Hossain remarked that systematic training builds competence and maturity, expressing confidence that these trained volunteers will swiftly step forward to serve humanity during crises.
Presided over by Rezwanur Rahman, Director General of the Department of Disaster Management, the inauguration was also addressed by Mohammad Saiful Islam, Secretary of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, as a special guest.
