The upazila administration has stood by the helpless woman Maryam Bibi (Bewa), who was affected by the waterlogging in the Bakharpur (Mahisdanga) area of Shiranti Union of Sapahar Upazila of Naogaon. After the news was published in various media, Sapahar UNO Romana Riaz inquired about the affected family and provided immediate humanitarian assistance.

It is learnt that due to the lack of effective drainage system for about a kilometer from Nayapara intersection for a long time, the road gets flooded with water even after a little rain. As a result, the movement of local residents is extremely difficult. The accumulated water entered Maryam Bibi's house and one side of the house collapsed, due to which living became risky.

The matter came to the attention of the administration after news about it was published in various media outlets. Later, UNO Romana Riaz contacted the affected family and took the necessary steps to provide assistance.

Upazila Executive Officer Romana Riaz said that immediately after the news was published, inquiries were made about the affected family. As humanitarian assistance, Maryam Bibi was given two bundles of corrugated iron and some cash. She also assured that the administration will continue to provide assistance as needed in the future.

Local residents welcomed this humanitarian initiative of the administration and said that the immediate assistance is certainly commendable. However, to permanently resolve the waterlogging, it is necessary to build effective drains, ensure water drainage systems, and quickly repair the damaged roads. They hope that the concerned authorities will take necessary steps soon.
