Nazmul Talukder, Morelganj (Bagerhat)
The livelihood of fishermen in the coastal Bay of Bengal of the Sundarbans, the world's largest mangrove forest depends on fish.
On the other hand, due to hostile weather, the fishermen of Bagerhat's Morelganj and Sharankhola had to return from the Bay of Bengal. Fishermen and moneylenders are losing money as a result.
This is not good for coastal fishermen. In the meantime, the Meteorological Department has issued warning signal No. 3 on Friday.
Sharankhola Upazila Fishing Trawler Owners Association President Abul Hossain said that bad weather is prevailing in the Bay of Bengal now. Unable to survive the rough sea, hundreds of fishing boats have taken refuge in Rayenda, Morelganj's Kumarkhali, Mohipur, Khepupara, Nidrakhina and Patharghata for four days. After a long 65-day ban, their fleet of fishing boats suffered a disaster while fishing in the sea on July 23 midnight for the first time. Hundreds of prisoners were forced to return.
As the weather was fine, when we cast the net again, the sea suddenly turned bad. The fleet of fishing boats was forced to return to the coast from Wednesday (August 8), unable to withstand strong waves and gusty winds. As a result fishermen and fishing boat owners are now in constant loss. Kabir Hossain, head of Sharankhola Rajoi fishing ghat, said that the fleet of fishing boats was anchored at Rayenda fishing ghat for three days without going to the sea due to hostile weather.
Anwar Hossain, dealer of Parerhat fishing port, said that the fishermen are not doing well now. Days are spent worrying about the moneylender. Our livelihood depends on fish. Golam Mostafa Chowdhury, President of Barguna District Fishing Trawler Owners Association, said that fishermen are constantly under the influence of hostile weather while fishing in the sea.
Unable to catch fish, fishermen are spending millions of rupees by taking loans and sending boats to the sea. On the one hand, the prices of diesel and food products have increased, on the other hand, trawlers are going to sea and returning without fish. Every fisherman who goes fishing costs a lot of money.
This time, after the ban on fishing in the sea, natural disasters have started since going to the sea with trawlers. If this continues, many people will be able to change their profession gradually. Saiful Islam Khokon said that after a long ban of 65 days, many fishermen went fishing in the sea and returned twice with empty boats. Every year after the ban, our local fishermen face hostile weather when they go to sea. Fishermen would have fished better if there was a ban in our country's seas with India. On the one hand, the prices of diesel and food products have gone up, on the other, trawlers are going to sea and returning without fish.
Every fisherman who goes fishing costs a lot of money. This time, after the ban on fishing in the sea, natural disasters have started since going to the sea with trawlers. If this continues, many people may change their profession gradually. He sought the attention of the government in this regard.
