NSTU JCD infighting deepens as two leaders expelled

The long-running internal conflict within the Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU) unit of the Bangladesh Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) has taken a new turn after the party's central committee expelled two campus leaders, further exposing organisational divisions within the unit.
The expelled leaders are Vice-President Shakhawat Hossain Sayem and Publicity Secretary Khairul Aman Shawon.
The decision was announced in a press release issued by the Central JCD office on Saturday (August 2), citing "specific allegations of violating organisational discipline." The statement, approved by Central President Rakibul Islam Rakib and General Secretary Nasir Uddin Nasir, did not disclose the specific allegations behind the disciplinary action.
Party insiders claimed the two expelled leaders are known as followers of Senior Vice-President Sabbir Hossain, whose faction has been at the centre of the unit's prolonged leadership dispute. However, the central committee's expulsion order made no reference to factional politics or internal rivalry.
According to multiple JCD sources at NSTU, the campus unit has long been divided into at least four rival groups aligned with President Jahid Hasan, General Secretary Hasibul Hasan, Senior Vice-President Sabbir Hossain, and Vice-President Aminul Islam.
The internal conflict first came into the spotlight in April this year during a programme demanding the resignation of the university's former vice-chancellor.
Sabbir alleged that a group within the organisation had carried out a planned attack against him.
The conflict did not end there. Two days later, the Central JCD served show-cause notices to five leaders of the NSTU unit over allegations of violating organisational discipline. Those asked to explain their conduct included Senior Vice-President Sabbir Hossain, Vice-Presidents Aminul Islam and Ashikur Rahman Jibon, Senior Joint General Secretary Aminul Islam Bulbul, and Joint General Secretary Maksudur Rahman Maruf.
Reacting to the decision, expelled Vice-President Shakhawat Hossain Sayem said, "Our organisation has a culture of seeking explanations whenever any issue arises.
Expelled Publicity Secretary Khairul Aman Shawon also questioned the process, saying, "The central committee did not contact me or give me an opportunity to defend myself before issuing the expulsion order.
NSTU JCD President Jahid Hasan rejected claims that the expulsions were linked to factional politics.
