July Mass Uprising symbolizes resistance against tyranny: DU VC

Speaking at a seminar hosted by the Faculty of Social Sciences at Dhaka University , Vice Chancellor Prof Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam described the July Uprising as an important milestone in Bangladesh’s democratic journey and a symbol of united resistance against tyranny and exploitation.

He noted that excessive desire for power, media suppression, and compromised electoral systems drive a state into crisis, stressing that respecting public opinion and constitutional institutions is vital for democracy.
The seminar, presided over by Acting Dean Professor Kazi Mohammad Mahbubur Rahman, paid tribute to the martyrs and injured of the July Uprising, urging future generations to build a just, non-discriminatory Bangladesh.
