DU observes Mourning Day

Dhaka University Mourning Day was observed today, Wednesday  through various programs.
 
 On this occasion, students, teachers, officials and employees of the university, led by Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan, placed wreaths at the Jagannath Hall Memorial at 7:30 am.

Later, a discussion meeting was held in the TV room of the October Memorial Building in Jagannath Hall, chaired by Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan.
Pro-Vice Chancellor (Admin.) Prof  Dr. Saima Haque Bidisha, Treasurer Prof Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, Proctor Associate Prof  Saifuddin Ahmed, Jagannath Hall Principal Debashish Pal, Jagannath Hall Former Principal Prof  Dr. Ajay Kumar Das, Dr. Jagadish Chandra Shukladas, DUCSU  VP Md. Sadiq Kayem,  GS S. M. Farhad, Jagannath Hall Sangsad VP Pallab Kumar Barman, GS Sudipto Pramanik, Dhaka University Branch Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal President Ganesh Chandra Roy Sahas, Jagannath Hall Injured Student Representative Acting Controller of Examinations Dr. Himadri Shekhar Chakraborty, and leaders of Dhaka University Officers Association, Employees Association, Technical Employees Association and Fourth Class Employees Union spoke at the discussion meeting. Acting Registrar Munshi Shams Uddin Ahmed presided over. 

Dhaka University Vice Chancellor Prof  Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan paid deep tribute to the memory of the deceased and said that the tragic incident of October 15, 1985 united the entire Bangladesh regardless of race, religion and caste. This bond of unity must be further strengthened and spread in the society. He said that a large development project including the construction of several new halls and renovation of various old buildings at Dhaka University has been approved by ECNEC. 
 
Various processes for the implementation of the project are progressing and a project director has already been appointed. The Vice Chancellor said that Dhaka University belongs to everyone. Dhaka University is for everyone. He sought the cooperation of all stakeholders including teachers, students, officials and employees in the implementation of this large project. He said that efforts will continue to make this university more advanced and modern with everyone, including the elected representatives of DUCSU.

To mark the day, black flags were hoisted in all halls, hostels and main buildings of the university, the university flag was kept at half-mast and black badges were worn. A prayer meeting was held by Hindus, Buddhists and Christians in the Jagannath Hall premises for the peace of the souls of the deceased.
