The Department of Journalism, Communication, and Media Studies (JCMS) at the State University of Bangladesh (SUB) hosted a vibrant Freshers’ Reception ceremony to welcome students of the 35th and 36th batches.
The event took place on Saturday at the university’s permanent campus in Purbachal, Dhaka.
Marking the occasion, a seminar titled “Post-July Uprising Journalism: Crisis and Prospects” was held, where the keynote speaker was Azad Mazumder, Deputy Press Secretary to the Chief Adviser.
In his speech, he said, “Journalism is a profession that presents new challenges every day. After the July uprising, the landscape of journalism in Bangladesh has changed dramatically. Previously, many journalists practiced self-censorship due to state and corporate control.
Prof Dr. Akhtar Hossain Khan, Vice Chancellor of SUB, attended the program as the Chief Guest. Addressing the new students, he said, “Journalism is not just a profession; it is a noble commitment to society, the state, and humanity. The Department of Journalism will play a vital role in nurturing your thinking, analytical, and writing skills.”
Md. Shamsul Islam, Chairman of the Department of JCMS, delivered the welcome speech. Dr. Ahmed Hossain, Registrar of the University, and Shah Reza M. Fahad Hossain, Proctor, also spoke on the occasion.
The program was anchored by Tasfia Nahian Hafiz, Lecturer at the Department of JCMS.
