96 students of DU History Department get scholarship worth Tk 1.4 million

Some 96. students of different years of the History Department of Dhaka University have been awarded scholarships worth Tk 1.4 million. They were awarded the scholarships at a colorful ceremony organized at Sirajul Islam Lecture Hall today, Monday.
The scholarship distribution ceremony was presided over by Departmental Chairman Professor Dr. Ashfaq Hossain. Dean of the Faculty of Arts Professor Dr. Mohammad Siddiqur Rahman Khan and Part-time Professor of the Department of History Dr. Syed Anwar Hossain spoke at the ceremony. Associate Professor Sharmin Jahan Chowdhury conducted the program.
A total of 96 meritorious students in 3 categories received this scholarship. In the first category, 19 students were given a scholarship of 4 thousand taka per month, in the second category, 17 students were given a one-time scholarship of 7 thousand taka, and in the third category, 31 students were given a one-time scholarship of 5 thousand taka. In addition, 29 students who secured the first, second, and third positions in the final examination of each year were given merit scholarships. The students who secured the first position in each year received a scholarship of 10 thousand taka, those who secured the second position received 7 thousand taka, and those who secured the third position received 5 thousand taka.
It is mentioned that there are 16 scholarship funds in the History Department. From these funds, scholarships are given to meritorious students in different categories every year. This year, 6 students were awarded the History Department Scholarship, 6 students were awarded the General M. A. G Osmani Scholarship, 4 students were awarded Fazlul Karim Memorial Scholarship, 4 students were awarded Nurul Abedin Memorial Scholarship, 4 students were awarded Late Alhaj Nurun Nesa Begum Scholarship, 1 student was awarded 1983 Batch Scholarship, 1 student was awarded 1984 Batch Scholarship, 1 student was awarded 1985 Batch Scholarship, 7 students were awarded Mirza Banu and Sirajul Islam Endowment Fund Scholarship, 1 student was awarded Abdul Mubarak Scholarship, 11 students were awarded History Alumni Endowment Fund Scholarship, 7 students were awarded Vivekananda History Fund Scholarship, 10 students were awarded Qudsia Chowdhury Waqf Scholarship, 4 students were awarded Golam Saklayen Saki Scholarship, 3 students were awarded AKM Bazlur Rahman-Begum Nurjahan Scholarship and 29 students were awarded Professor Sirajul Islam Merit Scholarship.
