
DUCSU organizes book reading marking birth anniv of Munshi Abdul Karim

A delightful 'Punthipather Asar' was organized by the Dhaka University Central Students' Union (DUCSU) on the occasion of the 154th birth anniversary of renowned Bangla literature scholar Munshi Abdul Karim Sahitya Bisharad. The event was organized at the DUCSU cafeteria of the university on Saturday evening.
At the beginning of the program, eminent puthi readers Bin Bani Amin Munna and Umama Jahan Mim read the book. Then, Haji Muhammad Muhsin Hall Sangsad's Social Services Secretary Md. Saifullah read the book on the July Uprising. Child artists Ahnaf Adil Shafi and Tasneem Farhan Mahir read the book on the life of the Holy Prophet. The main puthi reader of the evening was puthi singer, music director and teacher Shri Parimal Kumar Majumdar.
The opening speech was delivered by injured fighter of the July Revolution Ishrat Jahan Emu, while DUCSU's Literary and Cultural Secretary Musaddiq Ali Ibn Muhammad delivered the welcome speech. Dhaka University Journalists Association General Secretary Mahadi Hasan spoke as the special guest, and DUCSU General Secretary (GS) SM Farhad spoke as the chief guest.
Chief guest SM Farhad said, "The main aim of this event is to revive the practice of reading manuscripts and deciphering manuscripts. DUCSU will continue such initiatives to restore and sustain the continuity of ancient traditions and the culture of the people of this Bengali region."
Special guest Mahadi Hasan said, "Punthipath is an integral part of our culture, which is currently being lost. Such a great arrangement by DUCSU is undoubtedly commendable."
The program ended with the presentation of awards to the participating book readers and a cultural performance.
