Rajshahi University (RU) Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Saleh Hasan Naqib has called upon teachers, students, officers, and employees to work together to ensure the successful implementation of the long-awaited Rajshahi University Central Students’ Union (RUCSU) election.
He made the call while reading out a written statement at a press conference held at the university’s Senate Building on Sunday afternoon.
In his statement, the VC said, “When I assumed office on September 5, 2024, the university was facing administrative and policy-level stagnation. Since then, I have been working to restore normal academic activities, complete admissions, promote research, improve residential facilities, and organize the long-overdue RUCSU election as one of my top priorities.
He added, “Reviving RUCSU after nearly 35 years of inactivity was one of our key objectives. We formed a strong and effective election commission which has already completed the electoral preparations, including the announcement of the schedule, scrutiny of nomination papers, and publication of the final candidate list.
The VC further said, “Considering various circumstances and consultations with concerned parties, the election date had to be rescheduled multiple times. Nonetheless, we are determined to hold the RUCSU election on October 16.
Responding to a question on vote counting, the VC said, “It will not take us three days to count the votes. We have a skilled technical team to manage the entire process.
RU Pro-Vice Chancellor (Admin) Prof Dr. Main Uddin added, “We have already started renovation work at the RUCSU building so that elected representatives can take their designated rooms right after the election.”
