Rakib Hasan, the author of Tin Goyenda, a widely popular series of juvenile thriller novels, passed away at a hospital in the capital on Wednesday.
He breathed his last while undergoing treatment at the hospital in the afternoon.
Masuma Maimur, adviser to Sheba Prokashoni — the publishing house behind the Tin Goyenda series —confirmed the news in a post on her Facebook profile.
“With deep sorrow, we inform the readers of Tin Goyenda and Sheba Prokashoni that Rakib Hasan has passed away,”
“Please keep him in your prayers and pray for the eternal peace of his departed soul,” she added.
Tin Goyenda emerged at a time when there were very few juvenile detective novels available in the Bangladeshi Bengali book market.
In August 1985, the first book of the series captured the imagination of thousands of young readers who loved thrillers.
The success of the debut book led to the publication of its sequel, Konkal Dwip (Skeleton Island), followed by the third installment, Rupali Makorsha (The Silver Spider).
Eventually, new titles in the series began appearing almost every month.
