A week-long tree planting campaign and Tree Fair -2026 have begun in Netrakona from.at 3:30 pm on Thursday.

The District Administration and Forest Department, Netrokona are organizing the tree plantation drive in the open courtyard of the old Collectorate Building .

With the theme 'Beautify the country with tree plantation, Bangladesh first' in front of the municipality at 3:30 pm, a colourful joy rally started from in front of the municipality and ended at the open courtyard of the old collectorate building.

There, Deputy Commissioner Khandaker Mushfiqur Rahman officially inaugurated the tree plantation drive and tree fair by releasing balloons.

Later, at the Muktomona Mancha, with Deputy Commissioner Khandaker Mushfiqur Rahman in the chair, Executive Magistrate Ritwik Chowdhury, Zilla Parishad Administrator Advocate Nuruzzaman Nuru, Divisional Forest Officer of Mymensingh Forest Department Kazi Muhammad Nurul Karim spoke as guests at the inaugural ceremony.

Additional Superintendent of Police (Sadar Circle) Swajal Kumar Sarkar, convener of the District Freedom Fighters' Association, former member of parliament, also spoke.

Veteran freedom fighter Ashraf Uddin Khan, General Secretary of District Press Club Mahbubul Kibria Chowdhury Helim and General Secretary of Revolutionary Workers Party Sajeeb Sarkar Ratan and Nursery Owner Ali Ahmed spoke on the occasion.

The speakers at the discussion meeting highlighted the importance of tree plantation in protecting global climate change and environmental balance and called upon everyone to plant at least 5 saplings in their home courtyards, various roads and institutions. Saplings of forest, fruit and medicinal plants were distributed among all the students present at the event.
