Allegations of building construction by encroaching on road, highway land in Tongibari

There have been allegations of building construction by encroaching on the land of the Road and Highway Department (RHD) on the slope of Baligaon Bridge in Tongibari Upazila of Munshiganj. Although the RHD had said to stop the construction work, work was seen going on there on the spot.
On Sunday, it was seen on the spot that construction work of a building was going on the road and highway land on the northern side of the slope of Baligaon Bridge. Construction materials were kept in different parts of the building and workers were working.
It was learned from talking to local residents that a local person named Siraj is doing the construction work of the building.
According to sources from the Munshiganj Road and Highway Department, after the issue of illegal construction of the building on the road land came to their attention, officials inspected the site and stopped the construction work. Even then, as construction work continued there, questions have been raised about the issue of encroachment of SOHD land.
Accused Siraj said that no permission was taken.
Deputy Assistant Engineer of Munshiganj Roads and Highways Department Mohammad Shahid Mia said, "We have stopped the construction work after going to the site. If the work is started again, then legal action will be taken against the person concerned."
