Convener of the 'Tawhidi Janata Journalists Forum' has issued an explicit threat against Syed Shukur Ali Shuvo, Special Correspondent at the state-run news agency Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha (BSS) and former President of the Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) recently.

The warning, issued by Hussain Mohammad Saifuzzaman, Convener of the forum, targeted Shuvo over his presence at the DRU premises and his alleged ties to the former Awami League administration.

In a public statement, Saifuzzaman expressed outrage over Shuvo maintaining his membership at the National Press Club and continuing to visit the DRU premises ahead of its upcoming elections scheduled for November.

"Shukur Ali still holds membership at the National Press Club. He has been roaming around the DRU lately and shaking hands with journalists. We are shocked to see him," the statement said .

Referencing Shuvo’s home district of Gopalganj—traditionally associated as the stronghold of ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina—the Forum convener questioned his continued presence in the capital city.

Saifuzzaman claimed that lists of individuals associated with the former government were being compiled in Narayanganj and that similar efforts were underway in Dhaka to target and remove them.

"From now on, wherever there are fascists, they will be resisted and eliminated," Saifuzzaman warned, explicitly stating that the DRU would no longer offer protection to the journalist leader.
The threat comes amid heightened tensions surrounding journalist bodies in the capital following political shifts, raising concerns over press freedom and the personal safety of working journalists.

Former DRU leaders have frequently expressed deep concern regarding physical threats, legal harassment, and public intimidation directed at journalists carrying out their professional duties.
