It is expected that three mega projects, including resolving the housing crisis of Dhaka University students, will be implemented soon.

Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. Niaz Ahmed Khan discussed the overall progress of these projects during a meeting with Planning and Development Advisor Prof Dr. Wahiduddin Mahmud on Thursday. At this time, the advisor assured the speedy implementation of these projects.

In addition, the Vice-Chancellor held separate discussions with Economic Relations Division (ERD) Secretary Shahriar Quader Siddiqui and the Secretary of the Socio-Economic Infrastructure Division of the Planning Commission to expedite the activities of these projects. Dhaka University Syndicate Member Professor Dr. Mohammad Abu Yusuf was present.

It is imentioned that various buildings including 4 halls for female students and 5 halls for male students will be constructed under the Dhaka University Further Development Project at an estimated cost of Tk 2,841 crore 86 lakh. If this project is implemented, accommodation will be provided for about 3,000 female students and 5,100 male students.

In addition, a hall for female students will be constructed under the Bangladesh-China Friendship Hall Construction Project at an estimated cost of Tk 2,440 crore with the financial assistance of the Chinese government. There will be accommodation for 1,500 female students. Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Mr. Yao Wen has reiterated his commitment to support the construction of the female student hall.

At the same time, 168 very old and dilapidated buildings will be renovated under the Dhaka University Buildings Renovation, Conservation and Beautification Project at an estimated cost of Tk 1,515 crore.
