Dhaka University authorities have warned of strict administrative action against those involved in activities by the Dhaka University Central Students’ Union (DUCSU) that they said are inconsistent with the university’s laws, regulations, policies and administrative structure. Any attempt to establish a parallel structure or process that bypasses the university's administrative authority will be strictly resisted.

The university authorities said they have noticed several reports published in different media about DUCSU activities and made their position clear on the issues.

They said the installation falls outside DUCSU’s jurisdiction under the university’s own laws.

The university authorities also said they have noticed that photographs of Pakistan’s then Governor-General Muhammad Ali Jinnah and then student union leader Abdul Malek were displayed at the DUCSU museum.

“Displaying photographs of individuals whose positions conflict with the history of the Language Movement and Bangladesh’s independence is in no way acceptable at the university museum,” the authorities said.

They warned that strict administrative action would be taken against those responsible in accordance with the university’s existing rules and regulations.

The authorities also said DUCSU had launched a website without approval to evaluate university teachers, which is inconsistent with the university’s policies and institutional procedures.

Teacher evaluation is an important academic and institutional matter, and no individual, organization or students’ union can introduce a separate evaluation system on its own initiative, they said.

The authorities further alleged that the website had made teachers’ personal information publicly available, which they described as a punishable offence under the law.

Dhaka University already has its own policy for Teaching Evaluation, which has been approved at the highest level of the university and is in the process of being implemented, they said.

Therefore, any attempt to introduce a separate teacher evaluation system outside the approved policy is unacceptable and amounts to damaging the university’s reputation, the authorities said.

They described such activities by DUCSU as “undesirable, unexpected and unacceptable.”

The university authorities said they would not compromise on maintaining institutional discipline and protecting the dignity of the history of Bangladesh’s Language Movement and Liberation War.

They warned that strict administrative action would be taken under existing rules against anyone involved in constructing structures without university approval or attempting to establish a separate administrative system.
