Int'l Microorganism Day to be celebrated at DU on Sept 17

Dhaka University Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Prof Dr. Abdus Salam will be the chief guest and Faculty of Biology Dean Professor Dr. Md. Abdul Karim will be the special guest. Microbiology Department Chairperson Professor Dr. Shakila Nargis Khan will deliver the welcome address.
Three invited lectures will be held during the day-long event. The first lecture will be delivered by Dr. Mohammad Ziaur Rahman, Senior Scientist and Head of One Health Laboratory, ICDDR,B. His lecture, aimed at college-level students, will provide guidance on the possibilities of pursuing higher education and careers in biology, the necessary skills, and future workplaces. The second invited lecture will be delivered by Dr. Marufa Jerin Akhtar, Professor of Microbiology, University of Dhaka. The third speaker will be Sabik Khair, Lecturer, BRAC University.
The science-based activities of the event will include laboratory demonstrations, student science project exhibitions, and an inter-college microbiology quiz competition. The quiz will assess the knowledge and understanding of the participating students on the basic and relevant concepts of microbiology, including topics presented in the invited lectures.
The main program will begin with recitation from the Holy Quran at 9:30 am on September 17. After the invited speeches and speeches by the guests, laboratory demonstrations and scientific project exhibitions will be held from 11:00 am. The inter-college microbiology quiz competition will begin at 2:00 pm. The day-long program will end with the closing and award ceremony at 3:15 pm.
Convener of the International Microorganism Day 2026 Celebration Committee, Professor Dr. Muhammad Manjurul Karim, sought the sincere cooperation and presence of the concerned teachers, researchers, students, invited guests, and participating educational institutions to make the event a success.
The Department of Microbiology, University of Dhaka, will celebrate 'International Microbiology Day 2026' on Thursday (Sept 17).
