Present govt working for welfare of journalists : Abdullah

Bangladesh Journalist Welfare Trust Managing Director M Abdullah said that the present government is working tirelessly for the welfare of journalists.
Journalist Welfare Trust will work for journalists in the same continuity. He said that a nationwide database of journalists would be created, so that genuine journalists would benefit and non-journalism would be eradicated.
He said this while speaking as the chief guest at a discussion meeting titled 'Financial Protection and Welfare of Journalists' and grant distribution ceremony organized by Bangladesh Journalist Welfare Trust and Chittagong Metropolitan Journalist Union on Wednesday morning.
Financial grants were given to 17 journalists from Chittagong City, Cox's Bazar, Bandarban, Rangamati and Khagrachari in the meeting organized at Chittagong Circuit House hall room. Chittagong Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Syed Mahmudul Haque presided over the event.
CMUJ general secretary Saleh Nomane was the special guest at the function, Chittagong Metropolitan Journalist Union President Mohammad Shah Nawaz and Chittagong District Information Office Director Md. Saeed Hasan.
M Abdullah, Managing Director of Bangladesh Journalist Welfare Trust, said that journalists should not be limited only to donations, they should also be involved in multifaceted welfare work. Apart from this, the Kalyan Trust is working to provide scholarships for the children of journalists. The Kalyan Trust has taken action to provide allowances for elderly and retired journalists, Muhammad Abdullah said, and work is underway to formulate policies for this purpose.
Daily Amardesh Bureau Chief and Chittagong Development Authority CDA Board Member Zahidul Karim Kochi, The People's View Editor Osman Gani Manchur, NTV Bureau Chief Shamsul Haque Hydari, Daily Kaler Kantha Bureau Chief Mustafa Naeem, Senior Journalist Mainuddin Quader Shawkat spoke on the occasion. ,Ekatar TV Bureau Chief Saiful Islam Shilpi, CMUJ Vice-President Mahbubur Rahman, CMUJ Joint Editor Rafiqul Islam Salim, Senior Journalist Shahidul Islam, Mukhleshur Rahman Farhadi, Senior Journalist Aminul Islam, Daily Bangladesh Daily Bureau Chief Majumdar Nazim Uddin, Daily Manabkantha Bureau Chief Mohammad Ali, Journalist Jiban Mucha, Farooq Munir, Ismail Iman and Arian Elin among others.
Donation checks were distributed among 17 journalists at the function.
