Following unrest in Chattogram’s Hazari Goli sparked by a Facebook post, joint forces have detained 80 suspects involved in the violence. In a press briefing held Wednesday afternoon.
The 34th Engineering Construction Brigade Camp, Taskforce-4 spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Ferdous Ahmed confirmed that CCTV footage and intelligence are being analyzed to identify the actual perpetrators.
The incident began Tuesday evening when a Facebook post by local businessman Osman Ali, expressing anti-ISKCON views, provoked a gathering of nearly 500-600 individuals in Hazari Goli. The mob reportedly aimed to attack Osman Ali and his brother, as well as damage nearby shops. Joint forces swiftly intervened, rescuing the targets; however, the aggressive crowd attacked security personnel with acid and bricks, injuring five army members and seven police officers.
To maintain order, joint forces have intensified patrols in the area, sealing most shops in Hazari Goli.
