A high-level delegation from Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), led by International President Dr. Javed, met with the Health Minister at the Ministry of Health to review ongoing health collaborations and expand operational scopes across Bangladesh on Thursday.
The delegation included MSF Country Representative Elko, Deputy Country Representative Dr. Asish, and Country Representative Advisor Imamur Rahman.
During the discussions, MSF emphasized that its healthcare initiatives extend far beyond the Rohingya humanitarian response in Cox's Bazar. The organization highlighted its extensive support for local host communities, pointing out that several of its medical facilities experience a nearly equal split between Rohingya and host-community patients.
Key priority areas on the agenda included the national cholera vaccination campaign—which rolled out across 14 areas—alongside comprehensive dengue prevention efforts in Chattogram. These public health measures encompass outbreak response support, specialized clinician training on national medical guidelines, and strategic outreach initiatives to integrate private healthcare providers into official disease-reporting systems.
MSF expressed strong interest in joining the government's disaster-preparedness task force, leveraging its extensive global experience in earthquake and outbreak responses.
