Emphasizing that preventing diseases through proactive measures is the primary goal rather than chasing treatments after illness strikes, State Minister for Health and Family Welfare Dr. M. A. Muhit inaugurated the nationwide oral cholera vaccination campaign on Wednesday morning at Tejgaon in Dhaka.
During the inaugural ceremony, the state minister launched the drive by administering a vaccine to a person with disabilities, urging citizens across the country to participate in the program.
Highlighting the government's visionary approach to the health sector, Dr. Muhit noted that the national budget includes record allocations for healthcare, while ongoing initiatives are working to upgrade 50-bed Upazila Health Complexes to 150 beds to bring medical services directly to the people's doorsteps.
Stressing the importance of the oral vaccine in combating cholera and diarrheal illnesses, the state minister called on social organizations and local leaders to transform the vaccination drive into an effective social movement, ensuring doses reach remote villages, inaccessible chars, and hilly regions.
In addition to vaccination, Dr. Muhit outlined three critical hygiene practices required to prevent waterborne diseases, including ensuring 100 percent safe and purified water for drinking, cooking, and household chores.
