To ensure a proper academic environment and overall security at the University of Dhaka, an important meeting was held on Wednesday at the university’s Proctor Office.
The meeting was presided over by the University Proctor, Associate Prof Saifuddin Ahmed. Assistant Proctors, the Estate Manager, representatives from Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), Dhaka South City Corporation, and the Metro Rail Authority were present at the meeting.
The meeting seriously discussed the issues of traffic congestion and security risks arising from the presence of rickshaws, hawkers, mobile shops, and vagrant individuals under the metro rail station in the TSC area of the university. Concerns were raised over potential untoward incidents and the degradation of the university environment due to such outsiders.
According to the decisions taken at the meeting, the Metro Rail Authority will take necessary steps to evict hawkers, rickshaws, and mobile shops from under the station. The University Proctorial Team and DMP will assist in this task. Besides, the Metro Rail Authority and Dhaka South City Corporation will take necessary measures to remove the vagrants residing in the divider areas under the metro rail.
Furthermore, the Metro Rail Authority stated that lights will be installed to ensure adequate illumination under the station and CCTV cameras will be installed to enhance security.
The University of Dhaka administration welcomes this joint initiative by all concerned parties and seeks everyone’s cooperation in keeping the university campus safe and clean.
