A 4-day-long Model United Nations Conference, organized by the Dhaka University Model United Nations Association, began on Thursday at the Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Building. 

Dhaka University’s Pro-Vice Chancellor (Admin) Professor Dr. Saima Haque Bidisha inaugurated the conference as the chief guest. The theme of this year’s conference is: “Rule of Law and Reshaping Global Standards: Ensuring Justice, Equality, and Accountability.”

Presided over by Naushin Fatmi, Secretary-General of the Dhaka University National Model United Nations, the inaugural ceremony was addressed by Professor Dr. Delwar Hossain, Moderator of the Dhaka University Model United Nations Association; Mrs. Marianne Rabe Knævelsrud, Deputy Head of Mission of the Royal Norwegian Embassy in Dhaka; Sara Hossain, Executive Director of Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust (BLAST); and Md. Rakib-Uz-Zaman, former President of the Dhaka University Model United Nations Association, as special guests.

Professor Dr. Saima Haque Bidisha, Pro-Vice Chancellor (Admin), said, “Following the July uprising, the young generation of this country dreams of building a new state and society free from discrimination. To achieve this, the youth must develop as skilled human resources.” She expressed hope that this conference would play an effective role in enhancing students’ organizational skills, fostering innovative thinking and knowledge, developing public speaking ability, and building national and international networks. She also emphasized that various types of instability prevail worldwide, and it is crucial to ensure justice, equality, accountability, and the rule of law to resolve these crises.

It is mentioned  that around 500 students from various countries are participating in this 4-day-long conference. The participants will discuss a wide range of topics including gender inequality, health, economy, socio-economic context, human rights, human trafficking, national and international laws, international treaties, migration policies, geopolitics, and diplomacy.
