Human chain to demand trial of those involved in the attack on journalist in JnU

JnU Correspondent

Journalists of Jagannath University formed a human chain to demand justice in the case of Chhatra Dal leaders' attack on Jagannath University representative Md Junaid Sheikh of "Daily Kaler Kantho".

On Monday (November 18), they held a human chain program under the banner of 'Jagannath University Journalist Jot' at the Shanto Chattor of the university. At this time, this coalition of three organizations ofJnU's activists has given a 24-hour ultimatum to ensure trial and exemplary punishment of the guilty.

Mamun Sheikh, general secretary of Jagannath University Journalists' Association and representative of 'Janakantha', said that journalists are not on the side of anyone, they work for the country and the people. The attack on "Daily Kaler Kantho" Jagannath University representative Md Junayed Sheikh is a disgraceful incident. We are giving an ultimatum of 24 hours, within which the university authorities will take administrative action against the attackers and organizational action against them on behalf of Chhatra Dal. Otherwise we will be forced to announce more stringent programs.

In his speech, JnU Press Club president and Bangla Tribune journalist Subarna As-Saif said, " in 2018, the journalists of the journalists' association and the press club stood in this Shanto Chattor to protest against the attack on the journalists of the banned organization Chhatra League. Today after five years, even though that banned organization is not there, we have to stand here again, which is very sad. Even though 24 hours have passed since the attack on 'Daily Kaler Kantho' University Correspondent Junayet Sheikh yesterday, the University administration has not taken any visible action. We demand exemplary punishment of the culprits involved in this incident along with a warning to those who want to shut down the voice and mirror of the society."

JnU Reporters Unity President Amrit Roy said, "Journalists highlight the truth and lies of the society. It is not desirable to interfere in their work in any way. In the past, a large organization like the Chhatra League had to be banned for its terrorist activities. If the current students do the same thing, they will also face the same fate. I will call on the Chhatra Dal officials, you will take effective action in this matter as soon as possible."

Joint General Secretary of JnU Press Club Yushub Osman said, "The terrorist cadres of Chhatra Dal have brutally attacked JnU correspondent of 'Daily Kaler Kantho', Md Junayet Sheikh. Journalists have played a leading role in every movement of this university. Journalists have played a leading role in every movement of this university.

Chhatra League, the terrorist force of the previous fascist government, used to attack journalists in the same way. Journalist society will not keep its mouth shut against any terrorist, looters. Their writing pens will be moving. I am demanding the university authorities to take administrative action against the terrorists who attacked very quickly.

Mahtab Limon, executive member of Jagannath University Journalists' Association and correspondent of Dhaka Post, said, "The Chhatra Dal leaders who could not enter the campus for the past 16 years, those who fell in this Shanto Chattor due to the attack of the banned Chhatra League even a year and a half ago, were taken to the hospital by the journalists. JnU journalists shed their blood to establish the rights and justice of students and opposition parties during the Chhatra League period. The Chhatra Dal, which had just entered the campus, continued their activities in the campus exactly on the Awami policy. In this case, if the administration cannot give exemplary punishment by expelling the attackers, then the journalists across the country will give a strict program.

Earlier, leaders of Jagannath University Journalists' Association and Press Club issued a notice demanding exemplary punishment for the Chhatra Dal leader involved in the beating of journalists.

It is to be noted that on Sunday (November 17) at quarter to four, Jagannath University representative of Daily Kaler Kantho, Md Junayet Sheikh, was beaten up by the branch student group for filming a video of the students' fight on the east side of the Jagannath University cafeteria. The attacker is Masfikul, a student of the 2020-21 academic year of the mathematics department. He is a follower of Sujan Mollah, Co-Organizing Secretary and General Secretary of Jagannath University Chhatra Dal.

Parag Hossain, office secretary of the branch Chhatra Dal, first blocked the video of the fight on his mobile phone. When he asked for his identity, Junayet Sheikh introduced himself as a journalist. However, Aminul Islam Alif, a student of the 14th batch of mathematics department, repeatedly told the journalist Junayet, who are you, who are you? Later Jonayed was hit in the chest by Masfiqul Rain, a 16th batch student of Mathematics Department.
