BAU supplies 11.6 m-kg of rice seeds to farmers

In a significant effort to support agriculture and empower farmers, Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) has supplied 11.6 million kilograms of rice seeds to farmers across the country. These seeds, distributed with the support of BADC and BINA, have been planted approximately 1,60,000 acres of farmland, benefitting around 1.5 to 2 million farmers.
The information was shared by Md. Ziaur Rahman, Acting Chief Supervisor of BAU's Farm Management Division, during the inauguration of the Aman Seed Harvest 2024 event held on Monday (November 18). The event took place at BAU’s experimental farm field and was inaugurated by the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Dr. A.K. Fazlul Haque Bhuiyan.
In addition to rice seeds, BAU's Farm Management Division has also distributed 340,000 kilograms of wheat seeds through BADC, which were planted on approximately 5,667 acres of farmland, added Md. Ziaur Rahman.
During the event, Vice-Chancellor Dr. Bhuiyan emphasized the university's long-standing commitment to advancing agriculture in Bangladesh. "Our role is not limited to providing education. We actively work to develop and distribute disease-resistant, high-yield crops, fertilizers, pesticides, improved livestock breeds, and animal products. Thanks to the dedication of our agricultural scientists, the sector continues to thrive," he remarked.
The event also featured prominent figures from the university, including Student Affairs Advisor Professor Dr. Md. Shahidul Haque, Dean of the Faculty of Agriculture Professor Dr. Golam Rabbani, Associate Student Affairs Advisor Professor Dr. Mohammad Saifullah, Acting Registrar Dr. Md. Helal Uddin, and President of the Teachers’ Association Professor Dr. Md. Rafiqul Islam Sardar.
The ceremony was attended by faculty members from various departments, as well as staff and officials from the Farm Management Division.
