Ex-acting mayor of Gazipur City Corporation Asadur Rahman detained by BGB

Asadur Rahman Kiran, Vice President of Gazipur Metropolitan Awami League, was arrested by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) while fleeing to India from Jessore's Sharsha border. BGB confirmed this information to the media on Tuesday.
Incidentally, while the arrested Asadur Rahman Kiron was the councilor of Ward No. 43 of Tongir Pagar area of Gazipur City Corporation, he was also the vice-president of Gazipur Metropolitan Awami League in addition to serving as the acting mayor of Gazipur City Corporation for two terms. During the anti-discrimination student movement, Asadur Rahman Kiran was accused in multiple cases including obstruction of student movement and murder.
It is to be noted that in 2021, Asadur Rahman Kiran took charge as acting mayor after the temporary dismissal of Gazipur City Corporation Mayor Mohammad Jahangir Alam. Besides, he served as acting mayor for two and a half years before this.
A sub-inspector of Tongi East police station, who did not wish to be named, confirmed the incident. BGB has arrested the former acting mayor of Gazipur.
