An unfortunate auto-rickshaw driver named Hanif Mia passed away from a sudden heart attack inside his vehicle while traveling to Barguna District Jail to visit his imprisoned son on Thursday.

The tragic incident occurred near Sonar Bangla Bazar in Hosnabad union of Barguna's Betagi upazila. The deceased, Hanif Mia, was a resident of Hosnabad village in the same union.

According to local and family sources, Hanif's son, Bellal Hossain, had been detained in Barguna jail following a conviction in a narcotics case. Driven by parental affection and an intense yearning to see his son, Hanif set out for Barguna on Thursday morning aboard his auto-rickshaw, intending to check on him and offer solace.

However, before reaching his destination, Hanif experienced severe physical discomfort and acute chest pain near Sonar Bangla Bazar. He suffered a fatal heart attack and died on the spot inside his vehicle before any assistance could arrive.

Locals informed his family, who rushed to the scene and brought his body back home. The sudden and tragic demise of a father who left home hoping for a final glimpse of his son has cast a profound shadow of grief across the upazila. Relatives and neighbors remain inconsolable.

Md. Shahin, principal of Betagi Girls' School and College and a relative of the deceased, said, "He was a very good man. He set out for Barguna this morning simply to see his son and check on his well-being. None of us could ever imagine this would be his fate along the way."

Betagi Press Club General Secretary Lecturer Abul Bashar Khan expressed deep sorrow, remarking, "The sudden death of Hanif Mia is a cruel and poignant example of how deeply a child's crime and imprisonment can slowly break a father's heart."
