Palm saplings planted to prevent lightning strikes in Mirsarai

Young agricultural entrepreneur Md. Omar Sharif has taken the initiative to plant palm tree saplings on both sides of a five-kilometer road in Mirsarai, Chittagong. Under this program, 2,300 palm tree saplings will be gradually planted along the road from Thakurdighi to Sattar Bhuiyan Hat.
As part of this, the program was inaugurated by planting a few palm tree saplings along the road in the Sattar Bhuiyan Hat area of Katachhara Union of the upazila on Tuesday afternoon.
At the sapling planting ceremony, Upazila Agriculture Officer Pratap Chandra Roy said, "Palm and date palm trees are disappearing a lot from the country. Palm trees are very useful in reducing the risk of lightning. The initiative of planting palm saplings on both sides of Sharif Road is commendable. I request everyone to take care of the trees."
Managing Director of Zohra Agro Farmers and Nursery Md. Omar Sharif said, 'Every year, we have been planting trees in various institutions in the upazila. In continuation of that and to prevent lightning strikes, 2,300 palm tree saplings will be planted on the five-kilometer road from Thakurdighi to Sattar Bhuiyan Hat.'
Among others present at the event were former Mirsarai Upazila BNP convener Advocate Aliul Kabir Iqbal, Katachra Union BNP joint convener Jahangir Alam, BNP leaders Shahid Uddin, Nasir Uddin Boli, Sohrab Uddin, Abdur Rahim, Union Krishak Dal president Shahadat Hossain, Jamaat leader Md. Muslim Uddin and others.
