The Bangladesh Coast Guard East Zone hosted a high-level coordination meeting on Thursday morning to bolster security, prevent opportunistic petty thefts, eliminate illegal trading, and protect operational intelligence for commercial vessels anchored at Chattogram outer anchorage.

Providing details on Thursday evening, Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon stated that the initiative aims to safeguard international maritime trade at Chattogram Port, which handles the overwhelming majority of the country's sea-borne imports and exports.

The meeting, held at 11:00 am, brought together key maritime stakeholders, including representatives from the Chattogram Port Authority (CPA), 42 shipping agencies, Karnaphuli Fertilizer Company Limited (KAFCO), Chittagong Urea Fertilizer Limited (CUFL), Patenga Container Terminal (PCT), Red Sea Gateway Terminal (RSGT), and the Bangladesh Shipping Agents' Association (BSAA).

Lieutenant Commander Sujon highlighted that continuous sea patrols, intelligence surveillance, and preventive measures implemented by the Coast Guard East Zone have yielded tangible results. Reported incidents of petty theft on commercial vessels in Bangladeshi waters dropped from 10 cases in 2024 to four in 2025, maintaining a low four cases in 2026.

Coast Guard authorities reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining strict maritime vigilance and collaborating with port and shipping stakeholders to drive maritime crime down to zero, ensuring a secure environment for international shipping lines.
