PM to inaugurate Teesta Master Plan in Nov 2027 : State Minister for Water Resources Azad

The Prime Minister will formally inaugurate the much-awaited 'Tista Master Plan' in November 2027, said State Minister for Water Resources Farhad Hossain Azad.
He made this statement while talking to reporters after inspecting the Mahendranagar drainage canal in Lalmonirhat Sadar Upazila on Thursday morning.
Highlighting the progress of the Teesta Master Plan, the State Minister for Water Resources said, "We have already held technical talks with our neighboring countries on the Teesta issue. A high-powered technical committee consisting of river experts is working. We have almost brought the Teesta feasibility study to the final stage. We may get its approval when the Finance Minister returns."
Informing about the use of domestic and foreign experts for the perfect planning of the project, he further said, "In addition to CEGIS, River Commission officials and BUET experts, we are also taking advice from China, the Netherlands and Malaysia. A complete DPP (Development Project Proposal) will be prepared by combining all the advice. It will take another 8/8 months to prepare that DPP to ensure that the people here will get the most benefits by working in which method."
Stating that the implementation of the Teesta Master Plan will improve the fate of the people of the northern region, the minister said that through this mega project, the long-standing suffering of about 3 crore people of these 5 districts of Lalmonirhat, Gaibandha, Kurigram, Nilphamari and Rangpur will be alleviated and their expectations will be fulfilled.
Highlighting the importance of the Mahendranagar drainage canal, Farhad Hossain Azad said, the Prime Minister will come on November 19 and the magnificent canal will be inaugurated by him.
Among others, Deputy Commissioner Muha Rashedul Haque Pradhan, Superintendent of Police Asaduzzaman, District Council Administrator AKM Mominul Haque, Water Development Board Executive Officer Sunil Kumar, Lalmonirhat Sadar Upazila Executive Officer Mononita Das, along with leaders and activists of the local administration and BNP's affiliates and associate organizations, were present during the inspection.
