Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has inaugurated a new Border Observation Post (BOP) 'Rahmatpur' in the Rahmatpur area of Fatikchhari Upazila. The BOP has been set up to strengthen surveillance at the border and prevent smuggling, drugs, human trafficking and illegal arms trafficking.

BGB Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui inaugurated the new BOPT as the chief guest at a ceremony held on Wednesday. 

Chittagong Region Commander Brigadier General Sohel Ahmed, PBGM, BGM, PSC, BGB Additional Director General (Admin ), Additional Director General (Operations and Training), Guimara Sector Commander and Ramgarh Battalion (43 BGB) Commander along with senior BGB officials were present at the event.

BGB sources said that this new BOP has been established in the Rahmatpur area as part of strengthening border security. As a result, BGB patrolling and surveillance in the area will be further increased. It will also create an opportunity to take quick action against various crimes including smuggling, human trafficking, drug and illegal arms trafficking across the border.

The permanent presence of the BGB has been further strengthened with the establishment of a new BOP in the border area under the responsibility of the Ramgarh Battalion (43 BGB). Officials concerned believe that the establishment of the new BOP will make patrolling and surveillance activities in remote areas of the border more effective.

BGB sources further said that border security activities in this region began with the formation of the then 'Ramgarh Local Battalion' with 448 soldiers in 1795.
