Coast Guard foils smuggling bid to Myanmar, detains 3 with 220 sacks of chemical fertilizer in Ctg

The Bangladesh Coast Guard has seized 220 sacks (11,000 kilograms) of chemical fertilizer valued at approximately Tk 5.5 lakh being smuggled to Myanmar, along with a truck used in the operation, and detained three smugglers during a drive in Chattogram.
Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujan, Media Officer of the Coast Guard said this in a press release on Thursday morning .
According to the Coast Guard, acting on a tip-off, a special operation was conducted by Coast Guard Base Chattogram at Dabirkhal under Halishahar Police Station around 4:00 AM on Wednesday (September 2, 2026). During the drive, officers intercepted the suspects while they were illegally transferring the fertilizer consignment from a truck onto a fishing boat bound for Myanmar.
The law enforcement personnel seized 220 sacks of chemical fertilizer, the transport truck, and detained three individuals on the spot.
The confiscated fertilizer, the truck, and the detained suspects were subsequently handed over to Halishahar Police Station for necessary legal proceedings.
The Media Officer reaffirmed that the Coast Guard will maintain rigorous surveillance and continue anti-smuggling drives to curb illegal cross-border trafficking.
