Unloading goods on road by Sundarban Courier in Gopalganj causing sufferings to people
Gopalganj Correspondent
Severe traffic jams are often caused by the Sundarban Courier Service's covered vans on Bangabandhu Road in Gopalganj, which are carelessly unloading goods without paying attention to the sufferings of people.
At that place on Bangabandhu Road, there is a big bend on the left and the Gopalganj BSCIC Industrial Park bridge on the right. An illegal Mahendra stand has been built from the top to the bottom of the bridge.
Moreover, the Sundarban Courier Service's covered vans occupy most of the road space, and when the goods are unloaded, the vehicles coming from the opposite direction are not visible behind the covered vans. As a result, accidents often occur here. In addition, the Sundarban Courier Service has Gopalganj Science and Technology College on the upper floor, and various business establishments including Jugshikha School and 101 North Gopalganj Government Primary School are located next to it.
Although the district administration has banned heavy vehicles from plying on this busiest road during the day to avoid traffic jams, goods are being unloaded regularly on the road by managing the traffic police and other concerned parties. On the one hand, this is creating severe traffic jams and on the other hand, the risk of road accidents is increasing.
When we talked to several passengers and the general public who regularly use Bangabandhu Road, they said that the Sundarban Courier Service is the main cause of traffic jams here. If they park the trucks at the municipal terminal or at a quiet place, unload the goods and bring them here in vans, then traffic jams and accidents can be avoided to a large extent. On the one hand, goods are unloaded in front of the Sundarban Courier Service office.
Again, auto-rickshaws and vans stand haphazardly on the road for hours in the hope of getting passengers. In addition, illegal auto stands and Mahindra stands have been built near the big market, so we have to suffer from severe traffic jams while going to schools, colleges, offices and courts.
Moreover, the number of casualties in road accidents in Gopalganj is increasing day by day. In addition, the work of widening the road from Tekerhat to Ghonapara at a cost of about 6 billion taka under the project undertaken during the previous Awami League government to reduce road accidents on the Tekerhat-Gopalganj regional highway is almost at its final stage. Once this project is completed, the number of vehicles on Bangabandhu Road in the district town will increase further.
The concerned authorities will consider the matter seriously, and we have also learned that new DC and SP have joined Gopalganj. We expect that they will definitely take effective steps to ensure safe roads free from traffic jams in the district town.
