Tourists enjoy Cox's Bazar-like vibes at Industrial City Sea Beach in Mirsarai

Anwarul Haque Nizami,  Mirsarai (Chattogram)

To make life enjoyable, many people go out with their families. For travel enthusiasts, a new center of attraction has emerged— the sea beach at the National Special Economic Zone (BEZA) developed in Mirsarai, Chattogram. Locals refer to it as the “Mini Sea Beach.” Here, tourists are enjoying a Cox's Bazar-like experience.

In addition to vast factories and garments industries of the industrial city, the area boasts open natural surroundings. The hilly green land, the endless blue sky, and winding roads appear to merge modernity with nature. Beside all this lies the mesmerizing sea beach at the estuary of the Bay of Bengal.

On Monday afternoon, during an on-the-spot visit, a huge crowd of tourists was seen throughout the beach. Thousands of people had come with their families and friends. Several temporary shops had sprung up around the beach, offering spicy puffed rice, roasted peanuts, fried chickpeas, and various cold drinks. From these stalls, tourists were quenching their hunger and thirst.

The play of tides further enhanced the beach's charm. The beach lies just beside the super dyke built for protection near the industrial zone. Apart from Eid holidays, visitors crowd the beach every Friday and Saturday.

Ilyas Uddin, a visitor from Chattogram, said, “It’s my first time here. Truly an amazing place. The sound of the waves, the soft breeze, and the open environment can uplift anyone's mood. It’s an ideal place to spend time with family or friends.”

Demanding government initiative to declare it a tourist spot, Bahar Uddin, a visitor from Feni, said, “Coming here feels a bit like Cox’s Bazar. If the government wants, it can develop this beautifully. With development and maintenance, this beach can become one of Mirsarai’s key tourist destinations.”

Pointing out the lack of adequate facilities, Mohsin Ali said, “Often, we need a toilet when visiting here, but there is no arrangement for public sanitation. If permission is given to establish food stalls, resting places, and toilets, the beach will be even more suitable for tourists.”

It is learnt  that once there was no proper communication in this area. Local fishermen used to go to the sea via canal routes by boat to catch fish. But after the National Special Economic Zone was established, the landscape changed. A super dyke was built along the sea, blocks were placed. After this development, the beauty of the beach began to be unveiled.

Locals hope that with necessary government initiatives, this industrial city sea beach, known as the mini sea beach, will soon become one of Mirsarai’s prominent tourist spots.
