Human chain was formed demanding urgent steps to prevent the erosion of Padma river in Daulatdia and Devgram Union of Goalando upazila of Rajbari.

On Wednesday (October 9) at 11 o'clock in front of Goalando Upazila Parishad, this human chain was organized by Daulatdia and Devgram union residents on the Dhaka-Khulna highway. Hundreds of destitute residents of the two unions and city dignitaries participated in it. Young social worker Jamal Munshi led the human chain .

A strict movement warning has been given if the geobags are not dropped in the landslide-prone areas by tomorrow Thursday due to the human chain.

Devagram Union Chairman Hafizul Islam, Daulatdia Union Parishad Chairman Abdur Rahman Mondal, Goland Upazila BNP General Secretary Md. Mosharraf Ahmed, Daulatdia Union BNP Former President Mohan Mondal, SrVice President Dr. Abul Hossain, Member Secretary of Upazila Youth Dal Sanwar Ahmed, Organizing Secretary of Upazila Chhatra Dal Ahmed Ali Shipon, General Secretary of Municipal Chhatra Dal Moktar Mahmud, School Teacher Rafiqul Islam and Samaj Sevak Jamal Munsi, Zahid Sardar.

During the human chain, the speakers said that in the last one week, at least 10 families have lost their soil in the river due to the erosion of the Padma river in various areas including Daulatdia Launch Ghat and Munsipara of Devgram, Kawaljani. In addition, many families have moved to safer places due to the fear of landslides. But after many demands till now no action has been taken by the government to prevent erosion.

In the last 8/10 years, 23 mauzas of both the unions have disappeared under the river. Thousands of families have become proletarians. However, the previous Awami League government did not take any measures to prevent the fragmentation of this region. Only Awami League MPs and other leaders have cheated in every election. As a result, Daulatdia and Devgram Union are going to be erased from the map of Goalando.

They also said that in the past days this river has played a lot of tricks with us regarding governance. We have received many false assurances, we have heard many things that river management will be done, but nothing has been done. I heard that a lot of money came to prevent river erosion, but after a while, no trace of that money was found. Therefore, we ask the current government to take immediate action to stop the river rule. If action is not taken within a day (Thursday), we will hold strict agitation and protest rally.
