Kishoreganj DC protests against derogatory remarks about martyr Abu Sayeed

Kishoreganj Correspondent

Kishoreganj Deputy Commissioner (DC) Fouzia Khan protested against the derogatory remarks made about martyr Abu Sayeed during the mass uprising at the reception ceremony for freedom fighters on the great Victory Day in Kishoreganj (December 16).

She also said that the process of taking action against freedom fighter Idris Ali Bhuiyan for the controversial statement is underway. However, he did not say what kind of process is underway.

A press release sent from the email of the Deputy Commissioner's office at around 1:45 pm on Thursday (December 19) informed about the protest and the action taken.

The press release said, "A freedom fighter used some controversial words while giving a speech to discredit and make the district administration controversial. The matter is under review and necessary action is being taken. The district administration respectfully remembers the brave martyrs, injured and the fearless sons of the nation who sacrificed their lives in the July 24 Revolution. Along with this, the district administration stated that it is determined to build a new Bangladesh by implementing the goals of the student-public uprising.

The press release further stated that on the occasion of the great Victory Day , the district administration organized a reception and discussion meeting for the brave freedom fighters, war-wounded freedom fighters and family members of martyred freedom fighters at the Kishoreganj District Shilpakala Academy. The main objective of this event was to give the highest respect to the freedom fighters.

The press release mentioned, "At the reception, freedom fighter Idris Ali Bhuiyan made a controversial statement about martyr Abu Sayeed. The district administration, Kishoreganj, does not support his statement in any way. This is his own opinion. The district administration strongly condemned the matter and said that immediate action will be taken in this regard.

On December 16, at the reception of freedom fighters on Victory Day, freedom fighter Idris Ali Bhuiyan raised questions about martyr Abu Sayeed. He said, "What kind of martyr is Abu Sayeed? Who did he fight and die? They fought a movement, changed the country from one hand to another. Will they now rule us?" At the end of his speech, he raised the slogan 'Joy Bangla, Joy Bangabandhu'.

This statement caused a strong reaction in Kishoreganj district. Locals complained that this undesirable issue was caused by the reception being organized with the priority of freedom fighters of the Awami Gharana.

DC Fauzia Khan said, "Idris Ali Bhuiyan's statement is his own opinion. The district administration expresses regret for this statement and appropriate legal action will be taken against him."
