Scholarships, 24 bicycles distributed to tribal students in Poba

With the aim of improving the quality of life of tribals outside the Chittagong Hill Tracts, scholarships worth Tk 7.5 lakh and 24 bicycles were distributed to improve the transportation of students and make them school-oriented.
To that end, bicycles and 190 scholarships were given to 24 tribal students under the program titled Development Assistance for Special Areas organized in the conference room of the Upazila Parishad on Thursday.
The program was presided over by Upazila Executive Officer Md. Sohrab Hossain and Deputy Commissioner Afia Akhtar was present as the chief guest.
Rajkumar Sao, Executive Director of the Backward Social Development Organization (ASUS), spoke among the tribals at the time.
Speaking as the chief guest, Deputy Commissioner Afia Akhtar said - The literacy rate of tribals in the country is relatively low. The government has taken various programs to motivate these backward and marginalized students to focus on their studies and pursue higher education. The government's initiative to include indigenous people in the development highway is undoubtedly commendable. The special assistance program is ongoing to motivate indigenous students to face the difficult challenges of poverty and pursue education.
As a result of its proper implementation, indigenous children will become well-educated, will play a role in building the country and the country. Along with this, opportunities must be created for indigenous students in higher education. For that purpose, 24 students have been given bicycles and 190 indigenous students have been given scholarships.
It is worth noting that a total of 190 indigenous students have been given scholarships of 7.5 lakh taka under the special development assistance project. Out of this, 120 students from class one to five have been given 2500 taka each, 60 students from class six to ten have been given 600 taka each and 10 college-level students have been given one-time scholarships of 9,500 taka each. In addition, bicycles have been given to 24 students to facilitate the transportation of indigenous students.
Assistant Commissioner (Land) Md. Zahid Hasan, Assistant Commissioner and Executive Magistrate Fabliha Anbar, Hargram Union Parishad Chairman Professor Md. Abul Kalam Azad, Nowhata Municipality BNP Convener Sheikh Maqbul Hossain, senior officials of various departments of the upazila administration were present.
