Three hill dist councils reconstituted

The three hill district councils of Rangamati, Khagrachhari, and Bandarban have been reconstituted through a notification issued by the Council-1 Section of the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs on Thursday, says a press release.
The interim councils were formed by the authority vested under the Rangamati Hill District Council Act, 1989; sub-section 16K(4) of the Hill District Councils (Amend) Acts; and sub-sections 4(2) and 2(2) of the Three Hill District Councils (Amend) Act, 2014.
Under the newly reconstituted interim councils, Dipon Talukder has been appointed as the Chairman of the Rangamati Hill District Council, Mrasa Thowai Marma as the Chairman of the Khagrachhari Hill District Council, and Ms. Mamaching as the Chairman of the Bandarban Hill District Council. In addition to the respective chairpersons, 14 members have been appointed to each district council.
The interim councils will discharge their duties in accordance with the relevant laws and provisions until further orders. The notification also stated that the previous councils formed under the notification dated November 7, 2024, have been dissolved. This order takes effect immediately.
