Sylhet 48 BGB seized smuggled goods worth Tk 26 crore in an operation last November and arrested 6 people involved in it.
After the country's situation changed due to the mass uprising of students and the public, the interim government gave strict instructions to the BGB to prevent human trafficking and smuggling at the border. In continuation of this, as per the instructions of the BGB higher authorities, the BGB is maintaining a strict position on the border, maintaining self-respect against the BSF.
BGB Sylhet Battalion (48 BGB) under the Sylhet Sector conducted separate operations to prevent smuggling in the border areas of various BOPs of Sylhet-Sunamganj districts in November and seized smuggled goods worth Tk 26 crore including Indian sugar, narcotics, medicines, cattle-buffalo, saris-clothes, lehengas, cosmetics and garlic.
In addition, a total of 6 Bangladeshi citizens, including a UP chairman who was on bail in a case while going to India through Tamabil ICP, were arrested.
Sylhet Battalion (48 BGB) Commander Lieutenant Colonel Md. Hafizur Rahman confirmed the matter.
He said that as per the instructions of the higher headquarters, BGB members are active in border security, suppression of smuggling, illegal infiltration and prevention of illegal exit.
