Finally, Barishal's notorious gold fraudster Mofiz Sardar alias Sona Mofiz and his associate Sona Kawsar have been arrested by Kaunia Thana Police.

In the context of a case filed on behalf of the victims, this notorious fraudster was arrested on Monday morning from his house on Textile Road, 500 meters away from Kaunia Thana.

On November 30, on the eve of the fraud on Kaunia Janukisingh Road in the city, his associate Kalu Mridha (32) was arrested by the police, but Mofiz and Kawsar managed to escape. During the rule of the autocratic Awami League, this Mofiz managed the Kaunia Thana Police and carried out the fraud. Despite multiple complaints against him at the police station at that time, the police did not take any legal action, which was angered by everyone. The fraudster was finally arrested by Kaunia Thana Police.

Eyewitnesses said that the local students and the public played a major role in the arrest of the notorious fraudsters Mofiz and Kawsar along with the police. And they were the ones who identified Mofiz's house near the Jormashjid and informed the Kaunia police station after locating it. Later, the police came and arrested him. Earlier, he had been hiding in his house to protect himself from the wrath of the agitated public.

Police said that Mofiz, along with some of his associates, Kalu Mridha, had cheated at least a hundred people in Barisal city in the last few years. They had also cheated many people out of lakhs of taka by offering them cheap gold bars. Although complaints were made against them several times at that time, the police took no action for mysterious reasons.

A source inside the police confirmed that gold fraudster Mofiz had a deep friendship with the then Kaunia police station SI Zahid. And this police officer used to take regular bribes from them. That is why, despite multiple complaints, the Kaunia police did not take any action against Mofiz at that time.

It is alleged that on the contrary, the Kaunia police arrested a young man named Anon from Uttar Amanatganj area on behalf of this Mofiz a year ago. Later, after keeping him in the police station's custody, SI Zahid and the gold fraudster Mofiz devised a strategy to extort a large sum of money. And the young man's family was finally released by taking 35 thousand taka in cash from the police station. In addition, multiple fraud charges have been filed against Mofiz. But Dhurandhar Mofiz did not have a last resort! Although he had to come under the law, he had to come under the law. And it was the Kaunia police station that took appropriate action against him.

Police said that on Saturday (November 30) at around 12 noon, the local people arrested Mofiz's associate Kalu Mridha on the eve of the fraud on Janukisingh Road, Ward No. 1 of the city, and handed him over to the police. In this incident, a person named Ripon Hawlader accused 5 people including Kalu and Mofiz and filed a case with Kaunia Police Station. The Kaunia Police Station has arrested Mozif in that case.

The plaintiff in the case, Ripon Hawlader, alleged that a group of 5 people including Mofiz Sardar, a resident of Bhatikhana Gauasar area, roamed around different parts of the city and extorted money from simple people by luring them with gold bars. This group tried to trap an elderly couple on Janukisingh Road under Kaunia Police Station on November 30. Then the locals witnessed it and took the initiative to catch them. While Mofiz fled, his accomplice Kalu Mridha was arrested, later the Kaunia Police went and took him away. A case was filed against the absconding Mofiz and Kawsar and their accomplices on the same day at Kaunia Police Station on charges of fraud. Mofiz and Kawsar were arrested early Tuesday morning in that case.

Sources say that during the Awami League regime, Mofiz and his associates embezzled crores of taka by committing fraud without any legal hassle. A part of this money was given as gifts to local Awami League leaders and then officers of Kaunia Police Station. At that time, other police officers questioned the friendship of Mofiz, a smuggler, with SI Zahid of Kaunia Police Station. But at that time, since the OC's pockets were heavy, he put SI Zahid on his head. The goose that laid the golden eggs of SI Zahid, i.e. the smuggler Mofiz, was arrested by the police of his own police station.

In such a reality, it has been said that after August 5, there has been a change in the Kaunia Police Station Police. Four-time police officer Nur Alam has been given the responsibility of the OC of the police station. Kaunia Police Station has changed immediately after he joined. The police are now building a better relationship with the common people than before. Therefore, there is no more opportunity to get favors by doing wrong. However, the OC of the concerned police station, Nur Alam, also said this.

He said that the police are working keeping in mind what has happened in the police station in the past. Field-level officers have been instructed to have zero tolerance against crimes or criminals. In light of that instruction, SI-rank officer Delwar was able to arrest gold fraudsters Mofiz and Kawsar.

The OC said that many others are suspected of being involved in this process with Mofiz. He is being interrogated in custody. Legal action will be taken later, in which case, if the court orders him to be remanded, the interrogators are worried.
