A Chattogram City Corporation (CCC) survey has found a mosquito breeding site at former chief advisor Muhammad Yunus’s family home in the city’s Panchlaish area.
The CCC found 92 mosquito breeding sites across six wards during a survey conducted over the first 18 days of this month.
The sites span schools, colleges, markets, construction sites, homes, abandoned buildings, shops and shrines, with Yunus’s family home among them.
The four-storey house, named "Niribili", was built by Yunus's father in the 1960s.
A large section within the house's boundary wall has standing water, which the survey team identified as a breeding site.
No one lives on the ground floor.
A security guard said a nearby drainage problem prevents the water from draining, and that city workers no longer spray insecticide regularly.
CCC mosquito control inspector Muhammad Emranul Kabir said mud around the ground floor has caused the water to collect.
"We inform owners when this happens, and we spray insecticide there every week," he said.
The CCC's Malaria and Mosquito Control Officer Md Shorful Islam Mahi said identified breeding zones are sprayed regularly.
The survey covered Panchlaish, West Bakalia, Chawkbazar, North Katalganj, Pathorghata and Jalalabad wards.
North Katalganj had the highest number of sites, with 31, followed by Jalalabad with 22 and Panchlaish with 15.
