State Minister visits Teesta erosion site, orders immediate protection measures

State Minister for Water Resources Farhad Hossain Azad on Saturday visited the river erosion-hit Kella Para area along the Teesta River in Dimla Upazila of Nilphamari district and directed the concerned authorities to take immediate and visible measures to prevent further damage.
During the inspection, the State Minister said, “I do not want to believe anything unless I see visible work on the ground. Whatever is necessary will be done. Within the next two days, emergency measures must be taken so that no more houses, croplands, educational institutions, or religious establishments are lost to the river.”
He also stated that the implementation of the Teesta Mega Project may take another six to seven months. However, before the project begins, all necessary emergency river protection works will be launched without delay to safeguard the erosion-prone areas.
Among those present during the visit were Bangladesh Water Development Board (BWDB) Superintending Engineers Md. Mizanur Rahman and Krishna Kamal Sarkar, Executive Engineer Amitabh Choudhury, Sub-Divisional Engineer Md. Salamat Fakir, Assistant Engineer Md. Sohel Rana, Dimla UNO Md. Imranuzzaman, Chairman of Jhunagach Chapani Union Parishad Ekramul Haque Chowdhury, Upazila Project Implementation Officer Ashraful Islam, OC of Dimla Police Station Shawkat Ali Sarkar, assistant sub-assistant engineers, contractors, and local dignitaries.
