Father arrested for raping daughter in Senbagh

Police have arrested a father on charges of raping an 18-year-old girl in Senbagh, Noakhali.
Senbag Police Station OC Abdur Rahim Sarkar confirmed this information on Thursday noon. The accused was handed over to the Noakhali Chief Judicial Magistrate Court around noon on the same day, and the judge ordered him to be sent to jail. Earlier, police arrested him from Domurua Union of the upazila on Wednesday afternoon.
The arrested Abdul Latif Bhuiyan (50) is the son of the deceased Abdul Haque Bhuiyan of Damurua Union in the upazila.
According to police and local sources, daily wage laborer Abdul Latif had been abusing his daughter in various ways for the past two years. Then, from October 14, 2024 to July 19, 2026, he forcibly raped the victim against her will several times. At one stage, when the girl told her uncle and cousins about the matter, a village arbitration was held at the victim's house on Tuesday, July 28, led by Senbag Upazila Jamaat leader Maulana Hanif and former joint convener of Dumurua Union Jubo Dal, Mojibul Haque Titu. During the arbitration, the accused was given 33 lashes, a garland of shoes and a nose piercing. When the arbitration came to light, the police arrested the accused.
OC Abdur Rahim Sarkar further said that the victim herself filed a case under the Child Abuse Prevention Act as a plaintiff in this incident. When the accused was arrested in that case and sent to the Noakhali Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court.
