Microplastics research lab inaugurated at BU

A microplastics laboratory has been inaugurated at Barisal University to further advance research on the identification of microplastic pollution in the coastal areas of Bangladesh and its environmental impact. At the same time, hands-on training was held on the identification of microplastics using Fourier-Transform Infrared (FTIR) imaging technology. The inauguration and training program of this laboratory was held at the Department of Chemistry, Barisal University, on Tuesday.
The event was graced by the presence of the chief guest, Barisal University Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Mamun Or Rashid. He officially inaugurated the Microplastics Research Laboratory.
The program was presided over by Dr. Halima Begum, Sub-Project Manager of the project. The trainer was Amit B. Rane, Field Service Specialist, Spectrality Scientific India Private Limited. Asif Chowdhury, Executive Director, Technoworth Analytical Limited was present as the special guest. In addition, the Chairman of the Department of Chemistry, Dr. Masud Parvez, along with concerned researchers, teachers and officials were present.
Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Mamun Or Rashid said, 'If this research program continues, it will create opportunities to provide such research and services not only in Barisal University but also in the entire coastal region. Through this, Barisal University will be able to play an important role in research.
