Madhu Purnima is being celebrated by Buddhists in the hilly district of Bandarban with due religious fervor. On Saturday morning, Buddhists began the ceremony by visiting each monastery in the district and accepting the five holy books.
After accepting the five holy books, devotees offered honey, honey-mixed paste, various fruits and choyaing (food) to Lord Buddha in the monastery. At this time, the significance of accepting the five holy books and Madhu Purnima was highlighted in the presence of Bhadanta U Ketu Mahath, the head of the monastery of Rajguru Vihara in the district town.
Then in the afternoon, Buddhists will go to the monastery to listen to the sermon of the Guru and light candles and light a thousand lamps for the well-being of their families, parents, teachers and the country and the nation. Later, they offered prayers for the well-being of the country and the nation.
According to Buddhists, many years ago, on Purnima Tithi, a wild elephant collected fruits from the forest and a monkey collected honey from a beehive and offered it to the ascetic Buddha. Therefore, to remember this day, Buddhists celebrate Madhu Purnima with various events every year on Purnima Tithi.
