Father killed by son over dispute involving mother-in-law in Pirgachha

A 55-year-old man was allegedly stabbed to death by his son following a family dispute over showing respect to the son’s mother-in-law in Pirgachha upazila of Rangpur on Friday night.
The deceased was identified as Muhubar Rahman, 55, son of the late Fayez Uddin, of Char Tambulpur Masterpara under Tambulpur Union.
According to police and local sources, Muhubar’s son Hasanur Rahman, 22, had been having strained relations with his in-laws. On Friday morning, Hasanur’s mother-in-law and several others visited their house. A dispute reportedly arose when Hasanur did not ask his mother-in-law to sit or offer her food.
At one point, Muhubar reportedly told his son to treat his mother-in-law respectfully and offer her a meal. When Hasanur allegedly refused, his father slapped him.
Police said Hasanur became angry after being slapped in front of his mother-in-law. He allegedly picked up a knife from nearby and stabbed his father in the chest.
Muhubar sustained severe injuries and suffered heavy blood loss. He was being taken to Rangpur Medical College Hospital in critical condition when he died on the way.
Pirgachha Police Station Officer-in-Charge Selim Malik said the incident appeared to have stemmed from a family dispute, based on the initial investigation.
Police are making efforts to arrest Hasanur in connection with the incident.
The incident has cast a pall of grief over the area, with hundreds of local residents reportedly gathering at the scene after the news spread.
