Day-long Philosophy Graduate Conference held at DU

A day-long Philosophy Graduate Conference organized by the Department of Philosophy of Dhaka University was held at RC Majumder Arts Auditorium on Saturday.
Chaired by the Chairman of the Department of Philosophy, Professor Md. Nuruzzaman, the Dean of the Faculty of Arts, Professor Dr. Md. Abul Kalam Sarkar, spoke as a special guest at the event. Professor of the department, A.K.M. Yunus, delivered the welcome address. Honorary Professor of the Department of World Religions and Culture, Dr. Kazi Nurul Islam, and Honorary Professor of the Department of Philosophy, Dr. Azizunnahar Islam, delivered the welcome address. Teachers and students of the department were present at the time.
Pro-Vice Chancellor (Education) Professor Dr. Abdus Salam emphasized on the practice of philosophy to instill tolerance, generosity and moral and human values among people. He said that it is possible to build a humane society through the practice of morality and philosophy. Referring to the youth as the future of the future, he said that the future of Bangladesh depends on them. Only if the youth are well educated can competent leadership be created in the country. He called on everyone to abandon personal interests and play an active role in changing society by utilizing the moral teachings of philosophy. He emphasized on strengthening cooperative relations between different universities and interdisciplinary research to solve the country's social problems and elevate the university's position in the global rankings to a respectable level.
In the three sessions of the conference, MA students of the Philosophy Department of various public universities of Bangladesh presented essays on various topics. The cover of the essay collection titled 'Philosophy for Children' edited by Professor Md. Nuruzzaman was unveiled at the event. Eminent teachers, researchers, philosophers and psychologists participated in the discussion.
