The Khulna University administration has adopted a policy to encourage students to engage in research and innovative work. From now on, research students at the undergraduate, Master’s, MPhil, and PhD levels will receive a monthly allowance. The new policy will take effect from the 2025–26 fiscal year.
Prof Dr.Mohammad Kazi Didarul Islam, Director of the Research and Innovation Centre, has provided this information. He said that the policy was adopted to encourage students to engage in research and innovation. We believe that this initiative will create a strong research environment at the University.
According to information from the University’s Research and Innovation Centre, under the new policy, five undergraduate students and three postgraduate students from each discipline will be included in the stipend program. Each postgraduate student will receive a monthly allowance of Tk 5,000. A total of 20 students at the MPhil and PhD levels will receive monthly stipends of Tk 8,000 and Tk 10,000, respectively. Postgraduate students will remain under the grant for up to 12 months, while MPhil researchers will receive it for 24 months and PhD researchers for 48 months.
For the implementation of this initiative, the University has allocated an initial budget of Tk 12.9 million and earmarked a special fund of Tk 9.1 million.
In addition to the monthly stipends, a separate program has been launched to enhance the global visibility and academic standing of the University’s research. Prof Dr. Md. Harunur Rashid Khan, the Pro-Vice Chancellor of Khulna University, said, “We are committed to transforming Khulna University into a research-oriented higher education institution. The increase in monthly stipends for students and research grants for teachers is part of that vision.
