The 'Khondaker Lutfi Rabbani-Nazmun Nesa Memorial Scholarship' has been awarded to meritorious students of the Department of Biomedical Physics and Technology of Dhaka University.
The 'Khondaker Lutfi Rabbani-Nazmun Nesa Memorial Scholarship' has been awarded to meritorious students of the Department of Biomedical Physics and Technology of Dhaka University.
Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam handed over the scholarship cheques to the students as the chief guest at a function organized in the meeting room adjacent to the Vice-Chancellor's office on Sunday.
The event was presided over by the University Treasurer, Professor Dr. M. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury. Dean of the Faculty of Science, Professor Dr. Mofazzal Hossain, Trust Fund donor and Honorary Professor of the Department of Biomedical Physics and Technology, Dr. Khondaker Siddique-e-Rabbani, Acting Registrar Munshi Shams Uddin Ahmed, teachers, officials and students of the concerned department were present.
In the 2022-2023 academic year, Md. Abu Sayeed and Muttaqi Bin Ali were awarded scholarships of Tk 24,909 each. And in the 2023-2024 academic year, Md. Mahmudul Haque Milu and Mithun Bhowmik were awarded scholarships of Tk 23,000 each.
Speaking as the chief guest, Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. ABM Obaidul Islam said, "Such scholarships are very important in recognizing and encouraging talented students. Although the amount of the scholarship is relatively small, it recognizes the merit of the students and motivates them to achieve better results in the future."
He said, if former students and teachers of Dhaka University come forward with such initiatives, students of different departments will get more opportunities to get support. Seeing the success of those who received scholarships today, other students will also be inspired. Such initiatives will help students become confident and established.
It is noteworthy that Professor Dr. Khondaker Siddique-e-Rabbani established the 'Khondker Lutfi Rabbani-Nazmun Nesa Memorial Scholarship Fund' on February 27, 2013, in memory of his parents, the late Khondaker Lutfi Rabbani and the late Nazmun Nesa. Currently, the capital of this fund is 8 lakh taka. According to the fund's policy, 10 percent of the dividend received from investment every year is reserved for capital growth and the remaining 90 percent is divided into two equal parts and given as a one-time scholarship to two meritorious students on the recommendation of the academic committee of the department.
Late Khondaker Lutfi Rabbani was born in 1904 in Gorail village of Nagarkanda upazila of Faridpur district. He completed his matriculation from Faridpur Zilla School, intermediate from Dhaka College and a bachelor's degree with honors in economics from Dhaka University in 1930. Later, he joined the police department and earned a reputation as an honest, modest and just officer. He died on June 11, 1962, while working in Pabna town.
